I would like to update my tub/shower trim but have run into an issue with the tub spout. There is an attachment in the existing spout that I don’t see on DIY videos. Should I be able to remove this from the old spout and use in the replacement spout? Thanks.

That’s a slip fit spout that’s sealed with an oring inside the spout then the spout is held on the pipe with a set screw.

Just get the same style spout to make it an easy replacement.

Make sure and sand the burrs off the pipe before installing the new spout so you don't damage the oring.
