I'm building a shower pan for the first time, and I'm wondering if I've made a critical mistake.
I installed backer board on three sides of the shower, and mortared a Kerdi bench into the backer boards and to the concrete slab below. I then created a brick wall curb using bricks and thinset.
I created the preslope two nights ago - it's not brilliant, but probably acceptable. I then used thinset and cement board tape to shore up all the seams.
I realize now I probably made a mistake by installing the backer board and bench first - now I can't use a vinyl sheet for waterproofing because I can't nail it to the studs. I'm looking at going to a solution that uses Mapei AquaDefense and fiberglass membrane fabric. Do I have a better approach available to me?
