    Main shutoff

    Yep, for lubrication, not sealing.

    Main shutoff

Thanks, Geofd. I already have a 1" compression ball valve. I think I will use that, but add it in line and leave both of the other valves to reduce the amount of work/risk. I read somewhere to be careful with compression joints on older pipe, but since this is pretty sturdy 1" copper, I would...

    Main shutoff

I have a 1" supply coming into the house (approx. 40 years old). There are two shutoffs - one appears to be a gate valve that is before the meter, the other is a regular compression valve after the meter. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/iaok419kocuk5tn/AAB4FHloq8Aer6qIGxjbS6dga?dl=0 Even with...

    Help identify faucet / stem

Hi: I have faucet set (see pic link belowon a whirlpool tub. The tub is used very infrequently and the hot water valve has started to leak from the stem, but only when turned on. I'm assuming this means that the seat is good, but one or more of the o-rings is worn. 1) Could someone...

    Undersized circulator pump?

We have a hi-efficiency, natural gas hot water heating system. The maintenance man said that our circulator pump was undersized for the size of the boiler. He said this would shorten the life of the boiler/pump. We don't have a problem with getting enough heat in the house. The house is...

Need to redo drain for disposal. Opinions needed.

Frodo: I like, I like! And do you agree that I don't need an AAV under the sink because the drain I am tapping into continues up as a pure vent. As long as my p-trap is within distance from the drain. (I can get as close as I want, no problems there.)

Need to redo drain for disposal. Opinions needed.

Hello: My son just moved into a new house and has a botch-job of a disposal drain that we need to fix. See pics. http://s1158.photobucket.com/user/jmulla54/embed/slideshow/Disposal%20Drain The problem is that the drain line under the kitchen sink is 3-4" above the disposal outlet. We cannot...

Tub diverter - need help to identify and repair

tanks: Do you mean the white plastic piece? That is the stem of the diverter. I don't think it would "unscrew". I just moves back and forth to control flow between the tub and shower. I am going to try unscrewing the escutcheon. But please send more suggestions.

Tub diverter - need help to identify and repair

The diverter handle for my tub broke off. The handle set screw grabs on to a tiny piece o plastic that protrudes from the stem. 1) Can anyone identify the make model from the pictures? 2) Any help on how to fix? Is there any hope of finding a replacement stem? 3) I haven't been able to...

    Shark Bite 1" Ball Valve

Caduceus: Yes, that is soft copper coming out of the floor, but after the meter, it is regular Type M 1" copper. I should have been more specific, I intend to put the 1" comp x comp ball valve (already picked up a Legend 101-555NL) at the "end" of the existing line-up (i.e. after the upper...

    Shark Bite 1" Ball Valve

Hi Sheplmbr: Can you elaborate why you would rank compression below shark bite? The others scared me off!! BTW, Frodo and Phishfood: You guys must live on this forum ... :)

    Shark Bite 1" Ball Valve

Thanks for all the replies, guys. Matt: It's not a matter of cutting drywall to get at the pipe. See pics. The space is too confined to safely sweat pipes, not to mention that the entire house is going to smell of fumes for months. I usually use MAPP for sweating, but even so it will take a...

    Shark Bite 1" Ball Valve

I have two main shutoff valves on my house (30 years old). One appears to be a gate valve and the other looks like a normal washered valve. Neither is shutting off the water 100%. We are away each summer for 3-4 months, and I want to be able to shut off the water completely. Right now, even...

Shutoffs on Price Pfister 0X8 shower valve

Thanks, Matt30: I thought those shutoffs were ball valves. In replaced a diverter in another shower faucet (Rohl RMV-2) and its integrated shutoff valves only required a quarter turn to shut off the water.

Shutoffs on Price Pfister 0X8 shower valve

I can't get the water to shut off by turning the integrated H/C shutoffs on the Pr Pf 974-0420 0X8 valve. I turned both screws vertical as well as horizontal and it didn't stop the flow one bit. This is in a high rise apartment bldg and we are on the top (7th) floor. But why should that...

    Silicone grease

Probably answered before, but search yielded nothing. Should I use silicone grease when replacing a diverter valve? Apply to the o-rings and a small amount on the threads to lube? Is it generally a good practice to use silicone grease on o-rings and faucet washers too? Finally, what is...

    Rohl Diverter - Need identification

I have a Tempress II shower valve (single control handle with integrated push-pull diverter.) The diverter is bad. I removed it and it looks like one of the internal O-rings has dislodged/broken. I have researched the valve, and it looks like a Rohl RMV-2...
