I'm new here but in looking over some of the threads, I have a few questions. When someone tells the forum about a product, why does everyone get rude with the person most of the time? If the person is either telling others about it or even advertising, why does everyone attack? If it's a product that some might want to use, shouldn't everyone be able to decide on there own if they like it without the poster getting verbally beat up over it?

Please tell me why........................I honestly don't understand

I'll take a shot. Most of the plumbers on here are licensed with years of experience. As such, we have probably run across most items/products related to plumbing before. When someone asks what we think of said product, we give an honest opinion based on past experience. In my experience here, no one seems to "get rude" or "attack", we're just giving our opinion based on said years of experience. If a product can't live up to it's promise, I won't endorse it. As professionals, we have a responsibility to do things the right way and sometimes (most times) that's not the cheapest or the easiest way.

Thank you for your response. Maybe "get rude" or "attack" were to strong of words for me to use and I honestly apologize for that. It just seems that it is frowned upon for someone to post a link or post pictures for products on this forum. I have been in the plumbing trade for 26 years and in business for myself for 20 years and I am always willing to look at new products or listen to ideas that others may have. It just seems like most on this forum, kind of look at these posting in a bad light. Thanks again, I appreciate your words.

The only time I delete threads are when they are more of spam then advertising. I think most of it is because of approach. If you came in here and all of your posts were in some way an excuse to post a link to your website many do not like that. If you post when someone has a problem and your product could be a good fix then we are ok with that. We encourage all to post a link to their company in their signature area so that when they post it will come up and people can click on it.

Put yourself in the shoes of the average home owner who has a problem. Do you want a bunch of people advertising their products or actual plumbers who are taking time out of their lives to help you and your problem free of charge? We try and keep PF a freindly place that people can come to without any pressure from anyone to buy any certian product but get quality help from several sources with years of experience. I hope this helps clear this up and if you have any other questions feel free to ask them.

We are not a platform to sell products. If it was regular members, or if they even asked permission it would be one thing, but they don't. They post, then post links, and that's not the point of this site.

This site is to help people solve their problems. We do this by facilitating interaction between those in the know and those who need to know.

I can start a product development sub forum if it's of interest, but what I don't want is people pushing their wares or services when this site is about seeing to those things yourself.

Our plumbers are honest, if you need a plumber they will let you know, but I don't appreciate people who join to make a buck on people who may or may not know what they are doing.

There is a lot of snake oil in the plumbing industry, and in DIY in general, I don't want PlumbingForums to be home for that.

Now that being said, first and foremost we are polite. I take great pride in the pleaseant nature of this forum and will not tolerate anything to the contrary. I don't go online to read people getting ripped on or being mistreated, I don't know why anyone would.

If you think someone is being unnecessarily aggressive please report it.

I think this would be great as well.

I'm always interested in new products and ideas.

Arrowman - I would love that. I'm always modifying one tool or another to make it work for me. Maybe it would help others.
