Are you saying propane is cheaper? Not around here. I just refilled 3 tanks, took 12 gallons, and it cost me $46

Yes. A bottle for the grille. Last year it was $24.95 at the big box store H.D. Today it was $20.94 tax included.
If you have a Tractor Supply near you, they seem to be the least costly. When my tanks became expired, I’d swap them at a Blue Rhino vending machine. 😉

First thing I did when I moved into this new house is add NG lines for an outdoor grill and gas dryer. For unknown reasons here in NC, they love to dry clothes with electric dryers and use electric water heaters, even when the home has natural gas. 🤪

No more propane tanks for me!

Blue Rhino here too at the local H.D. I try NG everywhere I can as well!

I’m converting a propane grill to natural gas today and installing the gas line. Fun fun 😑

Very cool. Make sure you know where you want it but I know you know that and, if your place of residence is like mine, don't forget to have the installation inspected by a member of your appropriate local government agency.

It’s for a customer. I’m going to convert the grill with a conversion kit that’s for his model grill.
He will probably have a quick connect hose so he can move the grill around.

We don’t have a gas inspector so there’s no one to call. 🤡

Utility companies often give builders incentives to use the form of energy they’re selling.

At various times in history the gas company here would give you $100 for every gas appliance outlet you installed.

The electric company would give away free water heaters. The gas company has ran the same special.

I’ve have customers that have both electric connections and for gas water heater. Every time their water heater goes bad they play the opposing utility company to get a free one for switching.

I turned down having natural gas for a few reasons. Here they are…..

I was going to pay a premium rate for the natural gas because the home I built was in a rural area. They justified the extra cost because of fewer customers in my area.

I live in a warm climate. It only gets below freezing a few days out of the year and that’s usually at night and rarely lasts over a night or two.

I don’t use a lot of heat, I like my house cool.

Electric appliances are cheaper to purchase and service and install. Instead of a vent and gas line all I need is a wire for an electric appliance.

I must have electricity in my home, I don’t have to have any gas. There’s a carbon monoxide risk with gas and it’s also explosive and can leak. And again, gas isn’t required to operate a household.

When I grill, I use charcoal and wood.

It’s a personal decision for me. Things could change and I may find gas attractive one day……but not today. ✌

Wait until the power grid goes down, like it does here often, and try to live without electricity.
I suppose that could be a problem but it hasn’t been yet for my area. I realize you guys have blackouts and such. What part of Cali are you in ? I’ve been to Big Bear a few times…..

I do have a gas camp stove and a propane heater.

The only thing that would bother me if the power went out is the heat. It’s so damn hot here that would be the only real problem.

Hurricane Katrina we didn’t have power for around 3 weeks. Good times 👍

I was right there with you I was there from Sept 4th, 2005 through September 25th, 2005, while working with the Red Cross. My territory was Alabama,Mississippi, and Louisiana. I got some great pics from that disaster.

Due to a hack, as was perpetrated on the gasoline pipeline supply system out here on the East Coast or simply because the grid infrastructure is on its last legs? Or both?
Southern California Edison has been responsible for most of the fires, and their lawsuits have been in the billions. So to punish the people who sued them, when there are 10-20 MPH winds, they shut down power to those areas and any part of the leg that links the windy areas. They just separated our leg from the line to the mountains, so let's see what happens this year. Now that Lake Mead is so low, we are only above the generators by 10 feet, so if the water level drops 10 more feet, we will lose power to a few million homes from Las Vegas westward to the Pacific Ocean.

I'm in So Cal, about 1 1/2 hours away from Big Bear.

Sad thing is the fact that much of Katrina's aftermath is still visible. I'm guessing it is probably still there.

Yeah, still haven't finished repairs from Katrina or Rita (Rita hit my area). Also still trying to fix stuff up from Laura. Hurricanes are ugly. I'm hoping we won't get any this year. Power outages suck. Had my power go off twice within the last week for no apparent reason. I'm already in sloth mode from chronic fatigue but without cool air I hibernate.

Got my shoulder cat purring in my ear. He just woke up while I was typing about him and made a weird sound. Now he's purring louder. He is the sweetest kitty. Never tries to steal my food. Can't bite bc he doesn't have teeth. Likes to get under the covers and snuggle. High-fives me on command. He likes to be picked up and carried around on my shoulder.

Last night I was trying to do stuff on my computer but gave up because of this situation:

Three of them decided to pile on. Orange one is my shoulder cat. Gray one was looking at me instead of the camera.

I'm still completely exhausted and feeling like I'm not getting enough oxygen.

Twice a year, like clockwork some of us here in the US and around the world have to reset our time keeping mechanisms to keep up with the insanity that is Daylight Savings Time. Similarly, twice a year some of us have to jack up or jack down the temperature of our hot water heaters to keep our shower water control valves in their "sweet spot". Additionally and probably not germane to my question, when I lower the setting on the hot water heater in the summer months, this also causes the dishwasher to have to electrically heat the water it receives which I would think is a net energy use increase over simply getting hot enough water from the water heater itself.

Yes, I know this is probably a first-world problem, but has anybody designed a hot water dispensing system that automatically senses the temperature of the incoming cold water supply and "automagically" does something to compensate for this phenomenon?
