Sump pump pit install

I have to install a proper sump pit in my house and do away with the crappy plain old hole in the floor.is it better to cut the whole bottom of the pit out or just drill a bunch holes in it?theres no weeper tiles to tie into the pit it will just be relying on water draining to the pit. Thanks

We always drilled numerous holes so the water under the floor cold seep in. Try to put small gravel around the
pit to keep the holes from plugging up with mud.
