We had a 50 gallon electric GE water heater installed about a month ago. It works great, but we've noted a hissing noise coming from it, regularly. Is this normal and, if so, what is it?

I have heard some water heaters that made a small amount of noise when heating water, and others that you have to put your ear against to hear the activity.

By small amount, I mean that if everything was quiet, you could hear humming or hissing from the water heater. If the noise is loud, I would be worried. If the noise is just barely audible, I wouldn't worry too much.

You might try bleeding any air from the tank. This always seems to be the source of water heater noises.
