New house to me with an existing whole house water softener. Found shortly after moving in that my hydroponic grower was not growing well at all with soften water . Had to go buy distilled water to get seeds to grow.
Recently bought plants for outside garden and they too were not thriving. Got a cheap water hardness tester and the water to outside, and my sprinkler system is soften as well. Bypassed the water softener, question is, do I need to unplug it as well? May still use during the winter months, just not sure yet . Thanks in advance…..

You need to get a plumber and install a bypass to allow use of softened water for bathing/dishes, but allow tap water to water interior/exterior watering.

I’m on a slab, not sure how that would happen . Probably installed after the fact and it was the easiest/ cheapest option for whoever owned at that time.
