22 years ago nobody was “buying” the CSV theory either. Now it has become so common that other companies are trying to copy the CSV. A 20 gallon (42 equivalent) pressure tank only holds 5 gallons of water as opposed to 1 gallon in the 4.5 gallon size tank. 5 gallons of water doesn’t last much longer than 1gallon when you turn faucets on and off.

It takes 60 seconds to put 1 gallon in the pressure tank when using a CSV. If you open a faucet again before that minute is up, the 60 second fill time starts all over again and the pump just keeps running. If you wait two minutes between opening faucets, the pump will have stopped and have to start again. But it will always have the run time it needs as well as running at reduced amperage, so the load on the motor is de-rated and runs cooler.

Even if you waited 2-3 minutes between uses of water, and did that 30 times per day, those 30 cycles will be countered when the CSV makes the pump only cycle once per shower instead of multiple times per shower.

There are lots of people who use CSV’s with tanks that don’t even hold ½ a gallon of water. So I consider the 4.5 gallon tank with 1 gallon of draw to have a safe cushion. But you can use a CSV with as large a tank as you want, your just wasting money on the larger tank.

The CSV is considered a “disruptive product” as it makes pumps last longer and uses a much smaller pressure tank, which is disruptive to the pump industry. This is a good thing for the end users. You just have to get past the negative comments from people who make a living selling pumps and tanks.
