Good Afternoon!
We have a double kitchen sink. The disposer is under the right sink. The dishwasher is to the left of the sink, with the air gap through the counter.
A couple months ago, water started exiting the air gap. This problem persists, despite many attempts to address the issue. The water does not escape as soon as the dishwasher drains. It appears to drain past the air gap and to the disposer just fine. From there, it appears the water is entering the disposer much faster than it is exiting. The result is that after about 30 seconds of the dishwasher draining, water exits the air gap. Occasionally it is about a quarter of a cup, but most times it is less than that. Also, if the stopper is in the disposer side of the sink, the the air gap becomes a gusher pretty quickly.
Neither side of the sink seems to be draining slowly, certainly nothing that is obvious or problematic. The disposer appears to be working fine.
Things I have tried to remedy the problem:
1) Replaced old air gap - no improvement;
2) Disassembled all the pipes - no obstructions;
3) Snaked the outlet pipe 15 feet - no resistance was noted;
4) Snaked the roof vent - obstruction cleared; and
5) LOTS of swearing - felt better briefly.
Questions:
1) Is it possible the disposer is the issue? It has been in service for only about five years, but I certainly would not have an issue with replacing it if it is the culprit.
2) Does that outlet pipe need to have any sort of slope to it? At the moment, it appears essentially horizontal.
Any and all suggestions and ideas are welcome.
Thank you!
I have attached pictures (hopefully...).
