I recently purchased a new water heater and I am planning on installing it soon. I am decent with general diy things, however I do not have a lot of knowledge when it comes to the things you are supposed to / allowed to do when it comes to plumbing. I wanted to reach out and get a little advice before I did something wrong.

I attached pictures of the current install. Everything is CPVC.

I don't think it should be a big deal, but I have a few questions.

For the transition from the heater to CPVC. Here is the heater I purchased http://goo.gl/fBTsLm. The connections are 3/4" MIP. These are what I purchased to make the transition http://goo.gl/fXsB6q. Will this work? Is there any issue going from Iron to Stainless? Should I use thread sealant? I bought this http://goo.gl/z2ly5X, will that work or should I get something different?

For the CPVC cement I purchased this http://goo.gl/M3Gr6b, is that ok?

With the transition adapters above, one issue I thought of is if I ever have to move the tank for any reason I would have to cut the CPVC. I thought about using these to make it dis-connectable http://goo.gl/I4V3JW, would that be acceptable in this situation or could it cause issues?

Welcome back. I see you stopped in a couple years ago

WOW! Over 150 views and no replies.

We don't use CPVC here in So Calif for domestic water but the stuff you linked to should be just fine. I would use Teflon tape instead of the paste.

The unions?? Just a another weak link. Wait until you move the heater and add them then.

Thanks for the reply.

I was doing a little reading a while back and I guess CPVC was allowed at some point and they started using it because it was a little easier to deal with. It is also a manufactured home and I heard it was really popular in this case. I like it because its easy for me to work with if I need to make repairs.

I was wondering about teflon tape. I have never used any of the paste before, I just noticed they had on the current installation. I definitely feel like tape would be easier to deal with.

I agree about the unions. I was thinking about it and it should be pretty much permanent. Even if I had to move it for some reason I would probably feel more comfortable just putting in real cemented CPVC unions.
