I've lived in my home for several years and at least twice a year, we get very heavy rain over several days and water gets in our basement. We have two steps down from the front yard to a landing to enter the basement. There is a single drain in the center of the landing. The basement floods when either the drain gets clogged with mud or the drain cover gets caked with mud. This has been happening for several years now and I'm ready to deal with it. I don't trust myself to clean the drain cover and do regular maintenance to prevent this, as if you read the previous sentence, you know I am not good at doing that. Also, this has happened while on vacation at least twice in the past. What options do I have to prevent this? I don't have a threshold at the door. I just don't even know where to start.

Thanks and please let me know if I should provide more information.
Brian
