2" in Michigan supports 4 dfus. Most 3 compartments I've done drain indirectly, and go through a grease trap. The flow control in the grease trap probably only has a 1" opening anyway.

Well here is an update: we called the State and they more or less said too bad, put in the 3", no repreive unless tearing up more than 100 linear feet of concrete floor (ours was about 30 ft.) So we went ahead and put in the new 3" pvc pipe. Good thing we did as the old 2" pipe was pretty rusted out and plugged up. Thanks for all of your comments and advice. This is a cool website.
