I asked my daughter what she wanted to be when she grew up. She said "princess" so I think it would be tough to get her involved.

If you ask my niece what she is, she will tell you "princess". If you ask her how she knows, she will tell you that it is because I always tell her so.

At least someone believes me some of the time.

I gotta say my niece is the same way, my dad always calls her princess. So one of the teachers at kindergarten asked her " do you prefer addy or addyson?" And she says "actually I prefer princess" lol that one made me laugh when I heard the story from my sister. Apparently this world is gonna to have a lot of princesses in the near future haha

I've told her she's not royalty but she insist otherwise.

I see no point in correcting her any longer. She'll figure it out soon enough.

So Chris, should I use 1/2" backer board for my kitchen floor tile, or can I get away with the 1/4" stuff?

1/4 should be fine. just dont forget to mud under it. you dont want hollow spots to flex.

What kind of mud? Sand mix, self level, etc?
