My dad worked for a privately owned plumbing contractor with about 100 employees. I can remember him telling me that the 'copper' guys used feminine pads to hold back (absorb) the water while sweating copper. I thought he said they left it in the pipes. Is the whole pad used, or just the stuffing? Does it have to be a particular brand? Is this technique only used for waste lines, or can it be used on supply lines too?

Please clarify this technique. Thanks.

Never heard that one before. But you don't want to leave it in.

White bread , no crust, is a more common trick of the trade.

First time I did it was in a crawl under a house. Stuffed it good.
Made repair.
Turned water back on.
NO water downstream of repair.
To much bread. Had to cut repair and dig out the bread.
Try again.
Not so much bread next time around.

I can clarify. you are getting facts backwards, tampons are referred to as "sewer mice" because the string looks like a tail. sewer mice are found in drains not water pipe

no way, I will repeat this . NO WAY, would you leave a femine product in a copper pipe.

their is a chemical, in side the product that is very/super absorbant, it is also used as a fire retardent by fire fighters.
it would stop up the pipe.

the only thing I have ever put into a pipe and left, is bread, it breaks down into sugar and dissolves
