Hello everyone,

I'm having an awful time trying to figure out what kind of shower drain I have for a shower stall in my home. The pictures below show the strainer removed exposing the pipe and a large rubber gasket around it. I'm not sure what kind of pipe it is but I can tell you it's black and feels like plastic.

I've purchased a few different shower drains and none seem to fit. I recently purchased https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008E338FY/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

From what I read I thought it would be an rather easy fit but based on the photos I don't believe so.

Please take a look at the linked photos and let me know what I'm working with. Thanks.

That is a push/seal drain. It's a piece of crap a few manufactures send out with the shower base when you purchase it. Replace it with a proper 2 piece shower drain, I have no comment on the one you have already purchased because I have never used one like that.

Your drain appears to be molded in to the shower base and sealed with a rubber doughnut seal. Not replaceable, but the rubber is. Contact the shower base manufacturer for a replacement rubber doughnut seal. Your shower base looks like a Mustee-brand, try calling them.

Thanks for the info.

I went ahead and ordered a replacement rubber gasket for this type of drain. I'm hoping it works out, I do not want to cut out my ceiling and work my way to the drain.

Update: I installed a new rubber gasket but have a few questions. Is the gap between the gasket and the floor normal? See photo below. Additional how would you recommend installing the strainer? The previous gasket had 4 pre-cut holes for the strainer to sit. Or do I need a new strainer to match the new gasket?

might be to late but wiping the gasket with a little dishsoap will help getting it in a bit easier
