Decades-old plumbing spec calls for K-copper under and through the slab with grouted PVC sleeve at a slab penetration, but contractor suggests 2" HDPE directly through. No local code, IPC unclear. Runing HDPE lines from personal wells through basement block walls in residential buildings is somewhat common, but majority of local codes require to run only copper under the slab connecting to water main. HDPE failures exist, often run at lower pressure. Most codes seem to require copper under slab for municipal supply. I would appreciate any thoughts or comments on this situation.

Call me "old school", but I like copper. Large diameter professionally installed HDPE water mains are great, but for feeders into a building, I personally would want copper.
