Washing Machine Drain Smell

Hey Everyone,

I have a tenant that is complaining of a sewage gas smell that arises the day after they do laundry and run the washing machine. They said if they run a quick wash cycle the smell goes away.

The washing machine is on the first floor. I know it has a p-trap but the p-trap is only about 6” off the floor (not sure if that’s an issue). You can see the outlet in the photo.

What steps would you take to isolate the issue? Thanks!

Yep, I was able to measure from inside the standpipe to the bottom of the trap. I am definitely not referring to the dryer exhaust line.

I was wondering that too. I would think if that’s the case then it would still stink after they run a quick cycle though.

Maybe it takes time to sour.
