As ifixh20 stated, sump pumps do not need primed. They can, on very rare occasions, get air locked. Drilling a small hole in the discharge line just above the pump can eliminate this potential problem. Just make sure you do not drill the hole in such a manner that it directs the stream of water out of the crock.
