Hi! New to this particular area of DIY projects: got a new bathroom sink that I want to install. The problem? The vanity comes with a drain that's 1 1/4, and the trap I have coming out of the wall is 1 1/2. Hopefully there is a simple solution I could find at a local Lowes or Home Depot to connect the different sizes? Please speak slowly and use small words - I'm not up on the lingo/terminology yet, though I could look stuff up. Thanks in advance for any guidance! :)

It's very common to have 1 1/4" sink drain and 1 1/2" piping. What you want is a 1 1/4" x 1 1/2" trap adapter. It will have a 1 1/4" nut and washer similar to a compression fitting, then a 1 1/2" hub so you can pipe to your p-trap. As common as dandelions in the spring! You won't have any troubles finding one

use the 1 1/2 trap. then where it connects to the 1 1/2 tail piece

use a 1 1/2 x 1/1/4 reducer nut and washer as shown
