Just a quick question...I am installing a new shower pan and moving the drain over about a bit. I will be going from 2” abs from the shower drain to a reducer to a 1.5” p trap to two 45 degree elbows to about 6 inches of 1.5 through a joist and than two more 45 degree elbows to tie back in with the old drain. Does this seem reasonable? The joist is too close to where the drain is to head towards the old drain right away.

Sounds like you will have constant clogs. Why reduce to 1 1/2"? A casual sweep is much better than 45 degree elbows.

Thanks for the replies. The existing drain lines are 1.5. I understood that if I want to go from 2 down to 1.5 the only spot I can put the reducer is right below the shower drain, before the ptrap. Long sweeps to make those two turns would reduce clogging?
