Sewer Smell in Garage?

There is a sewer smell, I think it is coming from where a sink use to be in a house we just bought. What is the best way to stop this? I am sure this is where it is coming from, can I cap it off or should I do something else? We might put a garden sink in it but not for a few months, but what can I do in the meantime?
