ask your engineer what he spec's for the job.

his phone number is on the set of stamped approved blue prints that were approved by the city building department

if you want to change the type of piping that is approved. submit a RFI for value engineering, to the arch.

Like my fine feathered friend said, it's the engineers call. It can change from state to state, province to province.

I know it likely wouldnt fly here where I live. Parking garaged here are all XFR or cast iron for fire rating reasons.
