I have a PVC sewer drain in my basement where all of the water in the house leads out. The house was built in 2003. It exits through the center of the basement floor. On the very side of the PVC pipe there is a much smaller metal pipe with an opening about 1/2 inches in diameter sticking about 3 inches out of the floor. It is taped to the PVC sewer drain.

I assume it just joins with the sewer drain under the floor, but there is no bad smell coming from it. I recently tried to send a 5/16” plastic drain pipe to my dehumidifier down it and it came to an abrupt stop about 2 feet in.

Does anyone know what the purpose of this is?
If it does lead into the sewer drain, would it be safe to keep the dehumidifier draining into it?

:eek:No. It was probably just a piece of steel gas pipe hammered into the ground to hold the drain in place before they poured the concrete.
The often use rebar or scarp pipe. don't connect anything to it.
