I recently bought a home and this is the first septic system I've maintained. It is an aerator type with sprinklers.

One thing I found strange was this green plug at the bottom of the tube where you add chlroine tabs. It caused the tablets I dropped in to ricochet and drop into the two adjacent tanks.

I was finally able to retrieve it and found that it had a string attached that had snapped off.

Does anybody know what this is and what the function is? At this point I have it removed and my tablets can finally sit in the proper tube. Hopefully this resolved the issue but I love to know if anybody is familiar with this

Thanks!
