How would you fix this?

1 inch pipe with 1/2 sprinkler pvc that broke off. I’m happy to plug this, or run a new 1/2 up. Any advice? Cutting the 1” pipe doesn’t seem like a great option.

Get a Socket Saver tool like below. Then glue a new riser or plug if you wish. They have these in the big box stores as well.

What Mic said. If it were my house i would dig it all up and make a repair. How many times has that thing been repaired already

You should be able to just unscrew the fitting from the pipe and then replace it.

Be sure to clean all the mud and muck off first.

Also, I would use one of those 6-inch flexible 1/2-inch connectors and then put the sprinkler head on top of it. I'm not a big fan of rigid PVC pipe in lawn sprinkler applications.
