My wife and I are under contract to purchase a home that has a septic system built in 1969.
I has passed the Massachussetts required Title V inspection. However, I have some concerns due to the age of the system.
The SAS (leach pits) which there are 2 of tested fine. The property is a "known gravel area" which I believe is a good thing.
My concern is more the tank and it's components. The tank is concrete. It has a PVC outlet, and I think the inlet was some other material, concrete maybe?
The liquid level was recorded at 4" below the outlet if I'm not mistaken. I will post all the accurate measurements when I get home and can check the report.
The tank was not pumped for the inspection. The only comments on the report were "in good condition".
I am looking for advice on how to prepare for the possibility that it may fail soon due to it's age.
1.Is there anything other than proper use and regular pumping that I should do?
2. Should I have another independent inspection?
3. Is there anything you would do prior to closing on the property?
Any other advice on how to proceed is welcomed
