Last year (2022) I hired a company to replace my old 2009 Rinnai tankless water heater with a new one. I found out recently during a maintenance visit that a Rinnai manufactured in 2015 was installed as the "new" water heater. I feel like I got scammed since a got a water heater that was manufactured 7 years before the installation. Is this acceptable practice?

That would not make me happy. Seems the installer got a great deal on discontinued models, and selling them to unsuspecting buyers?

You gotta be careful where you look for the build date on a rinnai, they have dates on them where certain code approvals were passed.

So I call into question what the guy performing maintenance told you, he may be incorrect.

Take a pic of the unit and take a pic of the model AND SERIAL NUMBER and post it.
