The pipe in my tub/shower is slanted downwards. when i attach the faucet spout the top of the spout has a bit of a gap. i have caulked it in the past but it never lasts that long before it cracks. any suggestions?

Yeah it didn't I almost pulled the thing off. The previous owners didn't use the shower so they just got a plain spout

Ok, I know I am missing something. I can't figure out how to turn on the shower on this fixture. Is the diverter valve somewhere else? It not on the spout from what I can tell nor the shower head.
