    Banging Pipe

Will do, while I'm at it anything else you recommend me doing? Also any idea why it seems more prevalent at night? Thanks

    Banging Pipe

Hello, today I was woken up to a loud pipe banging sound originating from the irrigation pipe. Once I got outside I observed the backflow preventer shaking and expelling water continuously. This issue occurred as soon as the irrigation system was scheduled to come on (2am). This is a problem...

Irrigation pipes banging when toilet flushed

Quick update, per Twowaxhack's recommendation I choked the outlet of the backflow preventer about halfway and since then I've had no chattering (knock on wood). The backflow preventer still "locks up" for a split second when either zone 1 or 4 turn on so I suspect it must be faulty zone valves...

Irrigation pipes banging when toilet flushed

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll do them as soon as I can. Does anyone know why the backflow valve would chatter continously until I shut the zone or valve down?

Irrigation pipes banging when toilet flushed

The banging, which now I know is the backflow preventer chattering, Occurs when a zone turns on or switches to another. Now I'm not sure if it was a coincidence but it also happened while a toilet was flushed but haven't been able to replicate it in that fashion. I went out to test the zones out...

Irrigation pipes banging when toilet flushed

Yeah in the area I live I don't think sprinkler meters are a thing, its just connected to the house water. The problem occurred before and after a spring check valve was installed so I'm inclined to think that it's not the root cause. Would it be an issue to have a check valve after the...

Irrigation pipes banging when toilet flushed

The only place the check valve could have been installed was behind the wall, the plumber that installed the irrigation system left no room and did not originally install a check valve nor a water hammer arrestor. I have a feeling he didn't do all that great of a job. Should I consider having...

Irrigation pipes banging when toilet flushed

Here are some pictures, the backflow is indeed higher than the highest sprinkler. Thanks

Irrigation pipes banging when toilet flushed

My water pressure is around 50 psi, when the backflow preventer trips it drops to around 23 psi. Whenever a zone turns on I can pretty reliably get a good 2 seconds of pipe banging (backflow preventer shaking and expelling water). More rare but much more severe when it does not resolve itself...

Irrigation pipes banging when toilet flushed

I have normal electric zone valves, looks very similar to these:

Irrigation pipes banging when toilet flushed

Yeah it may be a separate issue I suppose. The main issue I want to solve it the loud banging that shakes my whole house, feels like an earthquake. If a zone is running normally and a toilet gets flushed then boom loud banging occurs. I also find that the issue occurs typically at night. Is...

Irrigation pipes banging when toilet flushed

Thanks for the reply! Yes it's a spring loaded check valve within a foot of the device on the house side. I've also bled the device. The same issue has happened with the past 3 backflow preventers I've had. Another thing I would like to add that could possible give more information is that...

Irrigation pipes banging when toilet flushed

Hey guys, today while a zone of the sprinkler system was running I flushed a toilet which resulted in a loud banging coming from the pipes and the backflow preventer shaking and expelling water. Once I shut the zone down everything stopped. From what I can observe it sounds like a low water...

    Irrigation Backflow preventer water hammer?

Just an update as it may help someone. I switched my irrigation schedule start time from 3am to 10 pm and haven't had any issues since. I suspect this means that high water pressure was causing the problem.

    Irrigation Backflow preventer water hammer?

Okay, so far I've put in a check valve and a water hammer arrestor and the problem just happened again today. Im not really sure what else I could possibly do. I think I should note that this doesn't always happen, sometimes it works just fine but other times it doesnt. Should I attempt to clean...

    Irrigation Backflow preventer water hammer?

The way everything is setup I'm not sure if I would be able to do that. I do want to fix this problem though. What could cause all of this?

    Irrigation Backflow preventer water hammer?

Hi guys, everything has been working well until this morning. I woke up at 4am to intense loud banging coming from the pipes. The check valve seemed to have helped but once again the problem is present. What is my next step? Should I also install a water hammer arrestor? Thanks!
