    Water heater advice...

If I do decide to go tankless, what are the venting options for it. This is the model I am considering and it would be installed near a chimney and against a wall where it could be vented. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P6XOHFU/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 Is there such a thing as direct...

    Water heater advice...

I decided to go with a tank water heater. Our water heater can be placed next to the wall where it would be vented. Currently there is an atmospheric vent tank there and I believe after researching, that direct vent would be the best option since it can be placed next to the outside wall...

I am considering the estimates I am receiving. The plumber that did some of the other work would also be charging us so I am comparing all quotes.

Direct Vent or Atmospheric Vent units would have relatively the same efficiency? The difference is that they just vent differently? The current tank vents out the chimney. My thought was to replace it with an atmospheric tank that would vent out the chimney as well. I might have to have the...

Sorry...not sure I follow you. What are "90's"?

I see..can direct vent be vented out of a chimney?

    Water heater advice...

If I go with direct (atmospheric vent) 75gallon...what model would you recommend? Are there ones that recover a lot faster and could provide hot water faster than others?

    Water heater advice...

Hello...We are working with a contractor that I do not have direct contact with (our architect does). She said that the plumber is good, but cannot make recommendations on what system to install. Most likely a language issue. So, I am trying to get plumbers out to have a look and give a free...

Not following you really...I don't see prices that high. Bradford White is close to top of the line? This is listed at about $2200. Is it a viable option...

Seems like the 80 gallon has double the power and a four year longer warranty? Is that a fair comparison?

    Water heater advice...

Sorry everyone. Didn't mean for this to get so far off topic. To bring it back, I wanted to let you know that I am leaning towards a tank now, but haven't ruled out tankless. I had a plumber stop by and he said that he recommended a tank to be vented out our chimney. The chimney would need to be...

The water heater would have to go in the basement. What do you mean by needing a second bath upstairs. We are renovating the home now and are having a powder room on our first floor and main bath upstairs. There will not be a full bath on the 1st floor. Just another full in the basement...

    Water heater advice...

We have 2 1/2 baths. Main entrance goes to the first floor. Powder room with sink on the first floor (only cold water to that room I believe). Kitchen on first floor. Basement contains a full bath (wouldn't be used too often) and laundry (gas dryer). Second floor has three bedrooms and the...

    Water heater advice...

Do you think a 75 gallon tank direct vent tank (without a mixing valve) would provide enough hot water to get a family of four through showers and to fill a bathtub? If I do go tankless, is there a setup that could provide a backup tank if the power went out and also to help alleviate the cold...

    Water heater advice...

Thank you all for your replies. Still trying to wade through the varying views... Just to reiterate, we have about an 1800-2000 sq. ft. home. 2 1/2 baths. On a day to day basis we will be using one shower (four people taking showers back to back normally). Our main concern is to have enough...

Are power vents very loud? The blower would be on constantly or would it be more like small intervals of time? How is the efficiency of a direct vent vs. power vent since power vent uses electricity?

    Water heater advice...

I was told by the plumber that a mixing valve would help with water efficiency. Doesn't it help a lot? You're saying just go with another atmospheric tank heater? Why not direct vent?

    Water heater advice...

I see. I think what is installed now is an atmospheric vent that is going out the chimney. You are recommending just getting another atmospheric vent? Are they more efficient now than 10-15 years ago? What about a mixing valve?

    Water heater advice...

Yes. I would be looking for a natural gas water heater. Kind of overwhelmed by the options out there. Was told that Bradford White, AO Smith or State water heaters were the best options...leaning towards direct vent vs. tankless. You can't have a direct vent going out a chimney, right?

So, direct vent would mean another opening would need to be put alongside the house? And power vent would mean the tank uses electrical power to vent? Which option would be the most efficient in the long run? It seems that tankless water heaters are the most efficient, but I'm not sure if it...
