I used my car jack to lift it so I could attach the collar. So I tried the dishwasher and the water is flying out of the air gap. I took it off...no clogs, no clog in the drain hose either. I double checked to make sure I did knockout the plug in the disposal. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks!!

Sure, remove the hose from the air gap. Secure to the hose to the bottom of the countertop as high as possible, then connect the hose directly to the disposal.

Remove the air gap, throw it away and get a hole cover at the hardware store for your sink in the plumbing department.

Hot in Texas yet ? ,

If you have to keep the air gap for code, your drain line likely has a partial clog. It may not seem like it with just the sink running, but the dishwasher drains a lot of water fast.

Get the trap back off, and snake the line.

Really? I thought air gaps were code?

I took everything apart, snaked the line and still have issues. Crazy! What else can I do?

It's brand new
Replace it again.

They’re junk, that’s why they’re not required nor used here.

I guess you could make sure you haven’t connected the dishwasher hose to the outlet of the air gap. That would be backwards.

Unless you are being inspected, do not use an air gap.

If you are being inspected, remove it after inspection.

Unless you like flooded countertops, and warped or rotted subfloor or buckled flooring in your kitchen.

I found the culprit!!! I thought I had knocked out the knockout with a hammer and flat head screwdriver, but on a hunch, I took a drill to it to make sure. Viola' here is that sucker. All is well now, air gap and all. Thank you all for your help!!

I wish I knew this about air gaps not being required before having the hole put in my new countertops last year. I have no garbage disposal. Air gap leaked underneath when water got splashed on it on the countertop, no matter how tight it was screwed in. I complained to my handyman so many times and he finally used some gray compound to seal it up but we also can't remove the air gap cover for cleaning anymore either. The air gap in the previous countertop also leaked when water splashed and damaged the wood under the countertop so that that air gap was always at an angle. I hate these things.
