Hi Everyone, my name is Jesse and I live here in East Cobb in Marietta, GA -- joining today because I'm interested to educate myself on a potential repipe of our new (2016 Built) house that was originally plumbed with the now recognized defective Uponor AquaPEX type A. Excited to hear from this community!

The best thing to do, and I have fair amount of experience:
Deal with a good plumber, contact local Uponor rep and Uponor customer service...start a claim. You will need to have/save the production numbers and date stamps from the colored pipes.
Get a quote from a "repipe specialist" who does the whole job including drywall patching or tile if necessary.
Uponor should cover it as they are routinely doing.

Exciting stuff -- take a peek at the very first question on the Uponor Claims website. Seems like a no win situation.

Every person I know has had complete success getting paid.
They 100% know that the surface color-added piping was a disaster and have not rejected any legit claim I know of.

I've decided to continue down the path of sending Uponor Warranty Claims at least one failed section. I'm sure I'll have plenty more as the entire house is ripe for failure (I guess). But I'll inquire about specific lengths, etc.

Oh and today got a quote to repipe for $18k, so dang. Oh, oh and heard that my initial quote for $10k (over the phone) was from a known company based out of AZ that might just have an shell office here and will simply outsource the entire job, so I'm no longer including that estimate into our quotes of consideration.

So far have quotes for $15 and $18 to repipe both hot & cold side.

Thanks guys. More to follow.

Damn, I might load up and would do it for that…….you’re 5 hrs away from me.

How many bathrooms ?

Haha, heard that! 5 Bath. Oh and look for payment from Uponor directly :)

That’s a pretty big repipe. Haha, I’d only do it for cash but I’d do it for about 14, no hole patching. No water service, no digging. If you were in my city I’d do it for around 12

Copy that, I appreciate the numbers -- it's helpful to know what my ballpark is for something like this -- sounds like between 15 - 18, what would you consider to be a ridiculous cost. Oh and so far I'm getting a lot of pressure from local plumbers to go w/ cPVC over PEX because of this continuing issue in our are of East Cobb.

Should I be worried to go w/ cPVC because of that cracking / brittle issue you guys are mentioning?

I’d go with Rehau PexA. Depending on your water quality (ph) I might would use stainless fittings or bronze.

I’d try not to circulate the water. If I had to circulate I would keep the temp low. I might consider whole house carbon filter but that would raise the cost $1500-2000

I wouldn’t use cpvc unless I installed it myself 🤣, it’s easy to do a crappy job with cpvc. You gotta be paying attention and transition between materials properly. You have to take your time solvent welding. If it’s done right it can last but it’s rarely done right.

They were still selling red/blue piping in 2020 and I repiped a bath with it. Should I be concerned?

I see Uponor is selling colored tubing again...so it means they figured it out...I haven't researched mfg dates but do a google search and if you find the answer, please post. Or call Uponor, I'm too busy today to do it.
