I am replacing bathroom faucet with American Standard faucet. My shut off valve has a tapered connection and will not accept the new faucet connection-threads will not reach. Is there an adapter or do I have to replace shut off valve? the "tapered" part is the bevel on the male end sticking up from the shutoff valve - the threads from the flexible hose wont catch the threads under the bevel-I guess it is beveled to accept the flared end of the old attachment

I would replace that valve with a 1/2 ips x 3/8 comp valve. You will still have the problem of being to short. Put a ips 90 elbow on and then a short 1/2" nipple and then the valve and that will raise it up so your new supply that's part of the faucet will reach.

Thanks-I will get a plumber to do it but at least I feel I understand the situation
