Help! I'm, a complete novice at plumbing but on a very tight budget, so trying to fix some things myself. My problem was that my bathroom sink would not hold the water for more than a few minutes. The faucets are only a year old but I figured the stopper assembly was 30-40 years old. So I just bought a brand new sink stopper assembly and installed the stopper assembly (pipe and lever) myself.
Everything works fine, including the plunger and the stopper itself, which go up and down in unison, as they are supposed to. But when I closed the stopper and let some water into the sink, it drained almost as fast as the water came in...although the stopper looked and felt tightly closed. BTW, the instructions said not to use any putty so I didn't.
What could be the problem? Thanks for any advice!
