Why would a toilet be clogged one night and the next day, it flushes with no problem?

do this, go and put two or three handfuls of toilet paper and flush the toilet. sometimes something get flushed down like a pen or toy , and it sits in the drain pipe. when use use toilet paper it back up around the item. so you go and plunge it , the toilet paper goes down but not the item , then you flush it flushes normally but the next time you use toilet paper it blocks up again
