Admittedly I did not look at a lot of youtube videos but it looks like thread compound should be used on the replaced valve seat but not the stem. Is that correct? If so, why none on the stem threads? My uneducated rule of thumb has been to use something on any plumbing threads.

The stems bonnet threads into the valve body and is sealed by what’s called a cap gasket.

This gasket can be made out of several materials.

I like to use at least some kind of lube on most threads. Mainly as a barrier to corrosion if the threads aren't meant to seal.

Some grease will attack o rings. I use silicone grease.

I use to use that thick solder seal grease but had problems with orings deteriorating years ago.

It was policy that when we sold a new faucet that it was completely disassembled and greased. I don’t do that anymore.

When I perform service on them, I do use grease.
