This way you can match up the type handle you need. It’ll be square and tapered stem or have splines on the stem. Let’s find out.

My suggestion is to replace it with a ball valve with a waste drain (the little cap at the bottom).

Click to expand... i don’t know what the white stuff is either. If it’s not leaking just leave it alone until next time you need a plumber, then have the plumber check it.
