I'm converting my bathtub into a bathtub/shower combination. When completed, I will have water going to the tub spout, the main, fixed shower head located above the tub, a rainshower head located at the center of the ceiling above the tub and a handheld shower head assembly.

I'll be using the GrohFlex Universal Rough-In system and the Grohflex Authentic Dual Function Pressure Balance Trim With Control Module between the tub spout and the main, fixed shower head. I'm trying to determine how to get water to the rain shower head and the hand held shower head and how to be able to switch between th0se two showerheads. I will not be using more than one showerhead at a time.

I won't be able to use the free Delta products I received because they will work with only one shower head. I would not be able to switch from the rainshower head to the hand held shower head. Should I buy another rough-in and cartridge/control, feeding it from the water supply lines before the water reaches the the control for the tub/main, fixed shower head, and place it in a different location or can I use a diverter located below the fixed, main shower head? Am I assuming correctly that if I use a dual or triple diverter (I don't know which one I need) attached to the tubing supplying water to my fixed, main shower head I won't need a second rough-in box and dual function cartridge to feed the rainshower head and the hand held shower head? I should then be able to control the tub spout and the three shower heads from one control, the water temperature and volume being adjustable for all of them. Again, only the tub spout or one of the three shower heads will be in use at any given time. Also, it seems that the tub and shower outlets on the GrohFlex rough-in box are the same size so I should not have to install it upside down for increased flow to the shower head. Is my assumption correct or is there something inside the valve that I can't see that sends more water to the shower head, which would explain why both outlets are the same size?

Thank you very much for the reply, frodo. I appreciate it. Also, thanks for the links. Most of what I have is Grohe but I also have a Delta rough-in valve and trim kit. I think the Delta rough-in is for a shower install. It looks similar to what is shown in your first link. I received all these Grohe and Delta products free of charge as a promotion. I did not choose them so I know relatively nothing about them. I'll have to research the Delta rough-in and trim kit to determine if I can use them as a diverter. I'm not certain how the Delta trim kit controls the flow to the different rough-in outlets. I'm also not certain if I want a Delta trim kit so large on the same wall as the GrohFlex rough-in and trim kit. Perhaps I can find a smaller Delta trim kit that is compatible with the Delta rough-in valve I already have. I don't know. I may just purchase a Grohe diverter and trim kit as the Grohe trim kits are much smaller.

Thank you again for your time and your assistance. I often depend on the knowledge and experience of others. Thank you also for the diagram. I'm still trying to decide whether to continue the copper tubing or go with Pex B tubing. I prefer the copper but the simplicity of Pex tubing is tempting.

that means, it will divert 3 different heads you can not use any of them
at the same time
the delta i posted will let you use 2 things at once
just figured you ought to be aware of that

pex is ok if you use 3/4 not 1/2''


your delta valve is a simple tub/shower valve no extra functions
the trim is shower trim only, no spout

you can not use the delta as a diverter


i do not know what the groh valve is, with out the model number
 
Thank again, frodo. I appreciate your assistance and the time you took to provide it. I apologize for the late reply but I was busy with another project. I was going to use a three way Grohe valve, but as you have pointed out I can use only one shower head at a time, which was my initial plan. However, having looked at the Delta 3 and 6 setting diverter rough-in that you provided a link to it seems that this would be the way to go, allowing me to use one shower head or two shower heads at the same time. Having this dual capability provides more choices and possibly diminishes or eliminates the need for a future upgrade. Thanks for steering me in the right direction. That's why I'm here; to learn from those who have the proper knowledge and experience.
