I have this pump (I'm guessing it's 20 gallons, going by its height), in a closet in the bathroom. It used to sound like a motor running until it refilled after using water, now it just clicks a few times. The water pressure is fine, but it's confusing me.

I've been in this house since 2011 and it was put in before that. The tank shows little small rusty spots and since this past horrible winter I noticed that it has a very slow seeping leak in the fittings that has gotten the floor damp, but no standing water.

I saw that you can buy new part to the control switch that looks dead easy to install, but that this doesn't always correct the problem and it looks like you might then have to move on the the fittings, and tank. It from what I can tell, it seems that they all have to be bought separately. So I was thinking it would probably be more sensible to get the plumber in to do it all.

I talked to one guy and he said since it was keeping pressure to just leave it until it breaks, does this sound right?

Thanks for any enlightenment or suggestions.

That clicking the pump on and off will quickly destroy the pump. A 20 gallon tank only holds 5 gallons of water, even when it is working correctly. When the bladder breaks it only holds a small amount of water, which is why the pump is clicking on and off rapidly.

The tank may just need an air charge, but when it gets to that point usually it’s a sign the tank is on borrowed time. Definately have a pump specialist check it out, the constant on/off of the switch drastically reduces the life of th pump

Thank you all for your answers. I got a plumbing guys out and they said that I should go up a size to a 32 gallon pump. I'm a little unsure, but I think the gist was that it keeps it from going on so often? Anyway they suggested a Gould V100, I think that's the kind that they stock. They said that they could order and put in the same brand as the one I have a Well-x-trol but a WX203. The first has a 5-year warranty and the 2nd a 7 year warranty, I believe. The Gould costs $1,050 installed and the Well-x-Trol $1,125 installed and the tank taken away for both.

My questions is it worth it to get the longer warrantied one. Or do you have a better option.

Thank you for your help.

A 32 gallon tank only holds 8 gallons of water. That is going to make your pump cycle on and off for every 8 gallons used. The WellX is the best tank, but that is a lot of money for such a small tank. Especially when the pump will still cycle for every 8 gallons used. Search for HT32B, same tank. Did you see the video I posted earlier? Here is another link for you.

That would be wonderful but I would never be able to install this myself and I'm guessing that the plumbers would use their own pumps and I wouldn't be able to find one to install the pump. It's sure is a huge savings if I could.

Thank you.
