I've noticed recently that when I open a faucet, turn on the shower, or flush a toilet, the water bursts out like there is an increase in pressure and then returns to the normal water pressure. This does not happen all of the time, but I am concerned about the increase in pressure and the possibility it will cause something to fail and leak. To me, it seems there is air getting into the system, but I don't know where. Any ideas of things I could look out for or troubleshoot would be appreciated. I would call a plumber, but it doesn't happen every time and I'm afraid it won't happen when they are here.

I had that same problem a few years ago. I replaced the expansion tank to cure the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try this. You are talking about the expansion tank on the water heater?
