Went down last night, bought a new thermocouple, but when I took the plate off, it didn't have the universal copper thermocouple that I bought from depot. Tried putting it back together and resetting it, it worked for a half hour then kaput. Any advice would be appreciated.

Post pictures if you expect to get any good advice.
Pics of the old thermocouple.
Pics of what you bought.
Pics of the water heater model number etc, off the side of the heater.

Your probably going to have to replace the whole pilot assembly. What brand water heater is it??

He's right. Most are part of the ignitor assy and you may have to find a dealer for your brand of heater. Most are proprietary.
