I'm trying to replace a toilet water supply connector. Old connector is grey PVC. Nut is off but grey PVC doesn't pull out of the shutoff valve. Suggestions? A friend suggest using a blow dryer to heat up the area and twist it out, but it's not clear to me whether the gray PCV has a flare that plugs into the shutoff valve. The accumulation of white crap around the valve -- not sure what that is. Your thoughts?

Squeeze the plastic just above the threads of the valve. Squeeze it several times with pliers. Then it should pull right out.

I’ve never had to use heat but it wouldn’t hurt.

Thanks much, the squeeze trick worked. I can see the original installer used a lot of goop and or plumbing tape when they installed it.
