Whenever I flush the toilet, I have to manually press down on the valve for it to fill up with water. Then once it's full, it keeps running and I have to jiggle the valve in order to stop it. It started happening when the water was accidentally shut off and the toilet didn't refill, so I was playing around with the fill valve thinking it was broken, but I ended up doing something to it. I would just like to know how I should attempt fixing it. Thanks.

I have a Moen M5350 fill valve, which I attached for reference.

Agreed, a new fill valve costs about $8.00, can be swapped out in ten minutes, if you are poky.
Fixing or cleaning or flushing the old valve is usually not worth the trouble.
Also, change the supply hose to the fill valve if it’s more than a few years old, old hoses can rupture and cause major damage.
And old stiff hoses can crack or leak from being handled (she said 😬).
You will have everything taken apart down there anyway.
New hose is about $6.00.
