Brother in law just had a major plumbing issue with his sump pump discharge . Seems that the line from his basement sump pump was plugged solid out in the yard which resulted in a replacement of said pipe. I saw a cross section of the pipe, it looked like sediment build up but was described as hard as cement. House is 30 years old. Is there a way to prevent this type of build up ? Is it calcium / magnesium that accumulates over time ? The water hardness in the city water is 4.5 to 5 grains .
