I have a spring fed water system in my house that I installed 30 years ago. It is fed by multiple springs using 3” single wall solid and perforated pipe. We used perforated pipe at each spring along with stone. Which then drains into underground 1500 tank. Everything is underground. So, the problem is I am getting minerals (dirt) in my water. Which gets worse when it rains. I have had this issue ever since I installed this system, but I used a water filter and everything was good. It is getting very bad and water filters are not keeping up with dirt. The water has been tested and is great with the exception of this problem. I am also losing the amount of water draining into tank. This problem I believe I know how to fix. We use the same system to fed water troughs for cattle. Roots will grow into perforated section and block water flow. I am sure the fed lines are blocked because there is an excess amount of surface water above fed lines and tank. Even with there being a drought this summer! My solution is to dig fed pipes and replace perforated sections with pipe that have filter sock. Is this the best solution for my problem? Is there another fed system that is better? Which is the best pipe with sock to use? And if I go this route would a water softener be better than filters. I lose pressure as filters get dirty.
