in my basement we have a kohler toilet, and it came with the house, probably decades old. it never has any mineral deposit. directly above it on the main floor we have a relatively new one from a box store. it always has mineral deposits it in and we are constantly cleaning it. we do not have a water softener. at certain times of the year, both toilets see about the same use. we have high mineral content water, so its not a surprise to see minerals. is there something about the glazed surface of a kohler (or other brands?) that seems to resist mineral deposit? thanks

There are toilets that offer a special surface as an option.
But broadly speaking, some mfrs and some production runs some times have good and better surfaces than others.
Toto calls theirs Cefiontect ceramic glaze lately. (Was called SaniGloss and it was NOT really any good)
American Standard calls their's EverClean surface.
They are premium priced upgrades usually.
No comment on how good they perform lately.

A low cost alternative to super-slick ceramic finishes is to periodically treat the wetted surfaces with a hydrophilic liquid coating like “RainX”.
First, throughly clean the bowl all the way up under the rim with an acidic bowl cleaner. Flush, and sponge out the remaining water. Then add about a quart or so of white vinegar and clean again. Use gloves, please! Then sponge out the vinegar. Now apply the RainX as directed, just as if it on a windshield.
The bowl will repel water and stains for weeks, maybe months between treatments.
