Smallest general home hot water heater?

Out of curiosity, what is the least gallons sized regular hot water heater?

Just serviceable, nothing fancy. A just me home.

I don't want to heat a lot of extra water.

Plan to have a shortish shower, or run dishwasher, or do a load of warm or cold wash. None at the same time. That type of usage.

Also, what kind of price range is usual for taking out old water heater and installing new smaller one. In a walk in closet, but with elbow room.

Smaller 20 Gallon heater will cost you more than a 30gal because the make them in fewer numbers
They make 6 gallon and even smaller.
20 gallon are sometimes used in mobile homes.

They make tall ones and short ones. Check your local stores and plumbing supply and see what they have available.
