Hi Everyone,

I have a leaking shower drain I would like to attempt to fix on my own. I know very little about plumbing, but figured out the source of the leak. It’s coming from the outside ring (pics attached). My question is, how do I remove this piece? I’ve watched quite a few YouTube videos and it appears they are screwed in, but I can’t figure out how to get a grip on this to actually unscrew it. I was able to use a screwdriver on the notches of the inside ring to remove it.

I attempted to pry it up gently with a screwdriver, but it didn’t seem like it would work, so I did not apply much force.

Any help is great appreciated. Thank you!

Under that notched peice you show in the pic is a rubber gasket
that's the water seal put some heat grease on the threads and dpi it back
In Teflon e paste will also work there may be a name on the strainer
if you need to replace the rubber washer

the part you are pointing at is connected underneath
the tub by a big nut is the strainer body moving around or
is the leak at that notched peice you removed

do you have access to this on the floor belowthere should be
a large nut holding this in place with some sort of paper or
fiber washer under there also above we're your arrow is there

You would need to put plumbers puddy on the strainer body
so it squishes between the shower floor and the strainer body

Thanks for replying. I appreciate it. The source of the leak is the far outside ring where the arrow is pointing.

Also meant to say.. the piece I’m pointing at is flush. It’s not moving around at all.
