Have a sewage smell in my house that I think ive tracked to under the kitchen sink. I replaced the mechanical valve for venting. Can the smell be coming form drain assembly under the sink?

I’m guessing your smelling left over food in the trap try dish soap any time you use it I work for a large college and we run across this a lot

There is a buildup in the trap. But would it smell like sewage?

If the build up is above the water level it will definitely smell
